Google Trends May Fool you in 2007
Google Trends May Fool you in 2007
Don’t let Google fool you in 2007
Google seems to be the favorite search engine of a lot of folks these days and they have come out with a tool that you may find particularly interesting. It is a new keyword research tool that produces trend results.
Google’s trend can generate graphs based on the number of searches people make on specific keywords. These keywords or keyword phrases are tracked by the country, city and date they are made. This makes for some interesting speculation. Go to http://google.com/trends and choose some of your favorite keywords and see what you can learn from the searches.
Just for fun, I tested the keyword phrase “home based business” since that is the phrase I was most interested in. It showed me that there was a slight increase in searching for this keyword phrase from the years 2004 to 2005. More importantly, there were significantly more searches done for the phrase “home based business” in 2006. If this is going to actually define a trend, it might be telling us that business opportunities are going to be generating more interest in 2007. That means for those of us who already see the value in owning our own business growth may be eminent. Good news as far as I can tell.
Another fascinating aspect about the google trend results for the home based business search is what parts of the world are doing the most searching for “home based business’. If we carefully look at the results under the “cities” search, we can see people in the United Kingdom, specifically in Dartford, are hottest about home based business opportunities.
The difference between searches done in the United States and England seem phenomenal. It almost seems that maybe there is a mad programmer sitting behind many computers doing the same old search over and over. Maybe the Google trends program is fouling up somewhere. Maybe people in the United Kingdom are really really ready for home based business opportunities.
Another interesting note is the “regions” that were searching ‘home based business.’ India ranked number one, followed by South Korea, Malaysia, Canada, Philippines and the United States. Clearly there are people all over the world looking for home based businesses.
I tried another key word, “income” to see what the google trends could provide. The top four results were countries in India, including Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, and New Delhi. The trend seem to be consistant over time with no indication of any rise or decline of interest.
I tried the keyword phrase “home based business opportunities” and India again came in first for the number of searches for that phrase. Canada came in second and the United States came in third. Actually as I look more carefully at the results, it only shows one section in time, which has been evaluated. I’m thinking this result isn’t valid. It may be one of the google hiccups.
O.K. Just for fun, I put in the keyword, sex and the ranking results for countries was Pakistan, Egypt, India, Iran and then Turkey. In the same results graph, the city that ranked number 1 was in India. In fact, India appeared in 4 out of 10 results. Turkey was in the other 6. This doesn’t correlate with their country results.
Although I started out thinking this Google trend tool was going to provide us with some good information, it clearly needs some help getting this tool to work correctly. I think when it does get working properly it may be a good tool. I wouldn’t depend on the accuracy of this tool just yet.

Derek’s Google Search Engine talk
Derek’s Google Search Engine talk
Derek’s Google Search Engine talk
This article explains a few things about google search engine, and if you’re interested, then this is worth reading, because you can never tell what you don’t know or what you do.
I will talk about Google, because I believe and most others who know a bit about search engines, believe Google to be the master of all search engines.
if your trying to promote your website don’t look at it and say oh ye, very nice website it looks the part, but if your site has very few friends, then you’ll for sure die a sudden death over a very short time.
Your site should be a professional looking site as well but this I don’t think that would come into Googles algorithms, but that’s ok for visual cosmetic for your visiting traffic.
Truthfully, the only difference between you and google search engine experts is time. If you’ll invest a little more time in reading, you’ll be that much nearer to expert status when it comes to google search engine.
Your site needs gentle promotion, what I mean by gentle promotion is building more unique content into your website pages, increasing your sites size by adding more good and unique content pages.
Plus start to write articles and submit them into article directories, of course with your urls pointing back to your website, with each article you submit. and also your name. brand your very own name as well.
Next build back links in other ways by bookmarking/ text ads/ links directories/ and any other way that you can, I am sure you can come up with plenty more ideas on getting backlinks than me! I bet if you sit down and think about it for a while.
There is also many many more things which happen when you type in a query into googles search engine, were not as clever or know all the things that are built in to googles data base algorithms, only google know these and it’s top secret stuff I bet.
All we do know is what we have learnt from other people, and what we have perhaps read, good meta tags are said to not be used by the major search engines any longer, but were not going to take that much notice of that are we. show all your pages keywords in the meta tag keywords section that matter, also put a good description of your page and also a Page “title>YOUR PAGE TITLE HERE<title” in the meta tag.
Don’t limit yourself by refusing to learn the details about google search engine. The more you know, the easier it will be to focus on what’s important.

Improve Your Google Pagerank – SEO Tips and Affordable, Budget Hosting Plans and Services – the Hosting Hole
Improve Your Google Pagerank – SEO Tips and Affordable, Budget Hosting Plans and Services – the Hosting Hole
If you can improve your Google PageRank then you will have a sure-fire way of improving your listing position. Google states very clearly that their PageRank and your link density is a very important part of how they decide your listing position for any keyword.
There are steps you can take to improve that and use an approximation to the Google PageRank formula to calculate how successful you are being. However, no one really knows what is required to get from one page rank figure to the next. If it takes 10 linking points to get a page rank at all, it will likely take a lot more to get from 1 to 2. It might take hundreds of thousands to get from 5 to 6, but many sites seem to get to page rank 3 and then stop.
Page rank is a measurement of the relative number of links to your webpage and the importance of the sites making these links, compared to the number of links leaving your web page. Page rank is what it says. It is a ranking of your web pages, not your whole website. This is particularly useful since it lists individual pages on your website, not the whole website. Check the current PageRank of your site / URL here.
These links need not be from outside sources, since internal page linking also counts. If one of your pages is linked to your home page, your home page gets a share of that page’s rank. The share decreases for each other page that the page in question is linked to. Each page in your website starts off with a page rank of 1. That then increases or reduces according to your internal linking strategy, and it is possible to design that strategy to provide as much PR as possible to one or more pages in your website.
Once you have optimized your internal links, you should then try to achieve as many links back to your website as possible from other websites. Keep in mind that you should try to get other web pages to link to specific pages on your site, that you have chosen either for their relevance to the keyword in question, or because that is the page that you want to get listed highest in Google.
Also keep in mind that websites with a very good page rank on their home page might be providing you with a link from a page deep in their site that has a very low PR, or even zero. A links page, for example, with only one link to the page but a hundred out will provide with next to no benefit. If the link is reciprocated, you could be giving that website more page rank points than you are getting back.
Another very important note. Make positively sure your hosting provider is consistent and reliable. Nobody exactly know how often Google updates PageRank but records show that PageRank updates 4-5 times a year on average. DO NOT take a chance of your website being down during the PageRank update. You must ensure that you have quality, reliable web hosting from an industry leader. So how do you choose a hosting provider when there are thousands of hosting companies available online? These tips will steer you in the right direction.

Will Google Punish Websites Selling Text Links?
Will Google Punish Websites Selling Text Links?
It is one of the most common acknowledgements in search engine optimisation that the quality, theme, anchor text used, and volume of links that point to your website helps improve your search engine rankings, through increased link popularity.
However within the past few weeks Matt Cutts seems to have turned the SEO world on its head by strongly suggesting that Google intend to set-up a ‘Snitch on a link selling website’ service that allows people to hand over details of websites they know are selling links from their site.
I’d just like to offer my opinion on this as I think it’s a diabolical, un-workable idea that oozes hidden agendas:
1) If a site is reported, how can you prove it? – So you’ve reported a site you are convinced are selling links to Google, what next? To be able to track and prove a website is selling links they either have to be very stupid (advertising ‘buy a link on our site!’) or Google have to have a paper trail back to the money, after all, how else would they be able to prove the allegation was correct?
2) Lets all report our competitors! – So is it innocent till proven guilty or guilty till proven innocent with this proposed scheme? I believe there will be a great deal of complaints made directly by competitors in order to get other website owners into strife. Maybe they’ve got higher ranking placements? Maybe they stole your best customer? Maybe you just want to get some companies out the way to generate more business yourself? I don’t understand how Google can accurately identify the agenda and motive behind the person reporting the site selling links, so similar to point 1, how do you decide who is telling the truth?
3) How do you tell a paid link from a non-paid link? – As far as I’m aware Google haven’t yet become powerful enough to indict individuals and businesses and legally demand bank records so unless you are caught with your hand in the cookie jar (e.g. you send out advertising costs for text links to a Google private investigator) then I fail to see how you can tell what link has been paid for and what was just someone linking out to a site they genuinely respect?
4) Google Adsense – Google Adsense is a bunch of text link adverts people splash all over their websites to make a couple of cents or pence from Google’s advertising network. People pay for the privilege of having their website listing appear on the Adsense network, effectively a form of text link advertising, so there will be inevitable cries of “Hypocrisy” if this proposal goes ahead
5) There are genuine reasons for buying a link – This isn’t always SEO related, sometimes people buy links on websites because they are popular sites with a relevant target audience to the person buying the link and hence they will get direct traffic from this form of advertising while not necessarily even considering the benefits in terms of improve link popularity. After all, a banner with a direct hyperlink is still a link isn’t it? Are these to be punished to? Or ignored because there is no keyword-rich anchor text at play?
6) Google created this in the first place – The guys at Google have to accept that an entire new generation of SEO tactics and techniques only occur because online marketers are obliged to get high ranking placements within the Google engine because it’s the most popular by a country mile. If link popularity was never a factor then buying links would never have become a necessity so in that respect Google created this situation, so again, there may well be calls of hypocrisy, as Google appear more than happy with the forms of revenue generated through SEO such as pay per click advertising campaigns
Other factors you have to consider are:
- What will the punishment be? How will this be implemented? Will sites get black listed? If so, when you stop selling links are you back in? Will that site owner then go underground and start up selling links on another site now understanding what they can get away with and how they can get around it?
- Will sites buying links be penalised? So will the penalty chain be passed down? If so, will people start buying links and pointing them at their competitors’ websites to get them penalised? Any time a site is penalised for something ‘off-page’ it is a very dangerous precedent because it may not be something you actually did but something someone else did to you get penalised
I firmly believe this is scaremongering by the Google team, they are trying to think of ways to eliminate a form of online marketing that exists 99% because of their engine’s popularity but they aren’t seeing a dollar from in terms of income.
If they do follow down this route I believe it is a continuation of their attempts to render the natural search listings obsolete and push the prominence of pay per click even more than they currently do.
I’m hoping they see sense, I’ve never heard of anyone complaining about anyone else selling links other than through annoyance because their site isn’t as valuable as their competitors so they’re not making as much money if they sell links. I’m hoping that Matt Cutts is being used as a canvassing tool by Google and that the backlash of the SEO world has been sufficient for them to drop the idea, focus on being the best search tool, and let the marketers market.
Commercetuned have been offering market leading, affordable search engine optimisation and pay per click marketing services since 2004.

Fear of Google in Link Building
Fear of Google in Link Building
The very common issue I noticed in Link Building is the fear that site can be penalized by Google for unethical link building. But the thing is that who will decide the tactics you are following are ethical or not. This is where you need to implement your common sense when building links for your site.
Let’s take it like this- You come across a technique and discuss whether it’s “ethical or unethical”. However, somewhere in your mind you are thinking that implementing this technique can help you to get traffic. Think again and again- if still you feel it can be beneficial for your site, don’t worry about being penalized.
Why am I assuring you? I have a reason. Google is not the only search engine as there are many more in competition. People always talk about Google because it’s a major one but not all-in-all. Being a supreme, Google will never do anything which can down their reputation in the market. But yes, you should care about the quality of work you are doing, not about Google.
For instance 1: You have a site related to SEO services and you exchange link with a game site or adult site which makes no sense for you or your site pointing to sites like this. Then this could be a reason that Google devalue your link.
For instance 2: When people buy links from thematic and quality sites, there is no reason to get penalized. Getting paid links from link broker and non thematic site can’t help you in any way- neither in increasing ranking nor traffic. In such cases also Google can’t give value to your link.
Being penalized for anything is different from being devalued. Google knows it very well that webmaster’s use number of techniques to rank high and there is no certain rule through which a site can get ranked. So they never penalize you until and unless you are doing something bad, illegal, immoral.
Everyone has their own methods and style in which they are comfortable, but not everything works out the way we hope especially in SEO. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Hence, Without Google’s fear opt the techniques which you feel would really be and experience the result.
